Sending money to someone else by Interac e-Transfer
Sending a CAD Interac e-Transfer to another person needs only their name and email address — no bank account or routing number — and Paysavo can auto-fill a security question and answer for you if you don't set your own.
To send a CAD Interac e-Transfer to someone else, you only need their name and email address — you never need their bank account number, transit number, or institution number for this rail. The recipient claims the money using their own bank's Interac deposit process, or (if their bank supports it) it can deposit automatically.
The security question and answer
Interac e-Transfers use a security question and answer as an extra step for the recipient to confirm they're the intended person. When you send, Paysavo lets you set your own security question and answer for that transfer — but if you leave them blank, Paysavo automatically fills in a default question and answer on your behalf so the transfer can still go through. If you do set your own, make sure you've told the recipient the answer separately (by phone or text, not in the same email) — Paysavo doesn't send the answer to them automatically as part of the transfer.
Required fields
- Recipient's full name — letters, spaces, apostrophes, periods and hyphens only; it's checked for a valid name shape before the transfer is submitted.
- Recipient's email address — checked for a valid email format.
- (Optional) your own security question and answer.
Common mix-ups
- This is a different flow from withdrawing money to your own bank account by Interac e-Transfer (which uses your own registered details, not a recipient's).
- If the recipient's email address is wrong, the transfer will go to the wrong inbox — double-check it before sending, since Paysavo can't verify that an email address belongs to your intended recipient.
