What happens when a bank transfer is returned or bounced back

A bank transfer showing as "submitted" hasn't fully settled yet, and the receiving bank can still reject it afterward (for example, if the account was closed) — there's no self-service way to reverse a submitted transfer, so contact support as soon as you notice a problem.

On this page

When you send money by ACH, wire, EFT, or another external bank rail, Paysavo submits the payout to its banking partner right away — but the transfer isn't final the instant you hit send. It shows as submitted, not completed, and settlement is confirmed by the banking network afterward.

What "returned" means

Because settlement happens after submission, the receiving bank can still reject the transfer once it arrives — commonly because the account was closed, the account details didn't match, or the receiving bank flagged it for another reason. When that happens, the transfer doesn't quietly disappear — Paysavo's records track the transfer through to a final outcome, either completed or failed, rather than leaving it in limbo.

What to do if you think a transfer was returned

  • Check the transfer's status in your transaction history first — a transfer that failed after submission will eventually show as failed, not still "submitted" forever.
  • There's currently no self-service option in the app to cancel or reverse a bank transfer once it's been submitted — if you believe a transfer was returned, or should have been but hasn't updated, contact Paysavo support directly rather than resubmitting the transfer or waiting indefinitely.
  • Have your transaction reference or receipt ready when you contact support — see the guide on getting proof/receipt of a transfer.
