Sending money by ACH transfer

An ACH transfer moves USD to a US bank account using a 9-digit routing number and an account number; Paysavo looks up the bank name from the routing number so you can confirm it before sending, and the transfer is submitted rather than completed instantly.

On this page

ACH (Automated Clearing House) is how Paysavo sends US dollars to a US bank account. To send by ACH, you'll need the recipient's routing number (a 9-digit number that identifies their bank) and their account number.

What Paysavo checks for you

As you type a routing number, Paysavo validates that it's exactly 9 digits and looks up the matching bank's name so you can confirm you've typed the right bank before you send. The account number itself is checked for a valid numeric format, but Paysavo can't confirm the account number belongs to the person you intend to pay — that's on you to get right (see "Common beneficiary-detail mistakes").

What happens after you send

An ACH transfer does not complete instantly — Paysavo submits the payout request to its banking partner, and settlement happens asynchronously afterward. You'll see the transfer as submitted, not completed, immediately after sending; it moves to completed once the network confirms it, or to failed if something goes wrong. This is normal — instant completion on submit is reserved for transfers between two Paysavo accounts, not external bank rails like ACH.

If something goes wrong

  • Rejected before sending — usually a routing/account number that failed validation; fix the details and try again.
  • Returned after sending — the receiving bank can still reject an ACH payout after Paysavo submits it (for example, if the account was closed); see the guide on returned/bounced bank transfers.
