Why does my first Naira (NGN) deposit take an extra step?

Before you can deposit Nigerian Naira, Paysavo automatically creates a dedicated Paga bank account number for you — this happens the first time you try to deposit NGN, and if it fails you'll be asked to contact support.

On this page

The first time you try to deposit Nigerian Naira (NGN) into your Paysavo wallet, Paysavo does not simply show you a shared bank account. It automatically requests a dedicated virtual bank account number for your account from its banking partner, Paga. This only happens once — after that, the same account number, account reference and reference number are reused for every future NGN deposit.

How it works

1. You start an NGN deposit and choose the Nigeria Bank (Paga) payment method.
2. If Paysavo already has a Paga account set up for you (an account number, account reference and reference number all present), it shows you those details immediately so you can send your transfer.
3. If this is your first NGN deposit, Paysavo calls Paga in the background to create that account for you, then shows you the new account number, reference and reference number to use for your transfer.
4. Once the account exists, every future NGN deposit reuses it — there's no repeat setup step.

Troubleshooting

If account setup fails, you'll see an error message and be asked to contact support — this does not usually mean anything is wrong with your funds, it means the one-time account setup with the banking partner didn't complete. Common reasons this step needs support's help:

  • A temporary issue reaching the banking partner during account creation.
  • Your account was already mid-setup from a previous attempt (Paysavo deliberately blocks a second setup attempt from running at the same time as an unfinished one, to avoid creating two different account numbers for the same customer).

In either case, do not keep retrying — since this is a one-time setup step, retrying repeatedly does not fix an in-progress or blocked attempt. Contact Paysavo support and reference that you were trying to deposit NGN for the first time; support can check and complete the account setup on their end.

Once your dedicated Paga account is set up, you'll always deposit NGN using the same account number — sending Naira to any other account number will not reach your Paysavo wallet.
