Why do I need to select my mobile network operator when depositing via mobile money?

In several countries, a mobile money deposit requires you to specify which network operator (e.g. MTN, Airtel, Vodacom) your phone number is on — Paysavo needs this to route the payment request to the right network.

On this page

If you're depositing using mobile money in certain countries, you may be asked to select your mobile network operator (for example MTN, Airtel, Vodacom, Tigo, or Halopesa, depending on the country) in addition to your phone number. This isn't an optional extra step — for several countries it's required for the deposit to be routed correctly.

How it works

Mobile money payments are processed differently depending on the country and network — a payment request sent to the wrong network for your number will not reach your phone. For a number of countries, Paysavo's mobile money processing requires you to explicitly confirm the network your number is registered on before it can send the payment prompt. Which specific networks are available to choose from also varies by country.

In some countries this selection is required for every mobile money deposit; in others, it's automatically inferred and you won't be asked.

Troubleshooting

  • If you don't receive a payment approval prompt on your phone after starting a mobile money deposit, double-check that you selected the correct network operator for your number, in addition to double-checking the phone number itself.
  • If your operator isn't listed as an option for your country, that operator may not currently be supported for mobile money deposits there — contact support to confirm what's supported.
  • Selecting the wrong network for your number is a common reason a payment prompt never arrives, separate from simply mistyping your phone number.
