Setting up app lock and biometric login

Turn on Face ID/Touch ID or fingerprint login and an app lock from the app's security settings for extra protection beyond your account password.

On this page

The Paysavo app lets you add an extra layer of protection on top of your account password: biometric login (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint, depending on your device) and an app lock that requires unlocking every time you open the app.

How it works

Biometric login and the app lock are two related but separate settings:

  • Biometric must be turned on before biometric login can be enabled — biometric login can't be on if biometric itself is off, and turning biometric off automatically turns biometric login off too.
  • App lock requires either biometric or an app PIN to be enabled — it can't stay on with neither set up. If you turn off the last one keeping it active, app lock turns off automatically rather than being left in a broken state.
  • App lock has a timeout you can set (how long the app can sit in the background before it needs to be unlocked again). On a brand-new install, everything starts off — app lock, biometric, biometric login, and PIN are all disabled by default, with app lock's timeout defaulting to 60 seconds once you do turn it on.

Every time you change one of these settings, it's recorded as a security event you can see later in your login/security activity history.

What to do next

1. Go to your app's security settings.
2. Turn on biometric if you want Face ID/Touch ID/fingerprint available at all, then turn on biometric login and/or app lock as you prefer.
3. If your device doesn't support biometrics, or you'd rather not use it, set an app PIN so you can still enable app lock.
4. Adjust the app lock timeout to how long you're comfortable leaving the app unlocked in the background.
